Tot Art Mini Camp

Drawing and Mixed Media (Spring)

Ages: 6-8

Dates: (6) Wednesdays, April 7 - May 12

Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Cost: $60 members/$70 non-members


This class is an introduction to drawing and mixed media techniques using oil pastels, chalk pastels, watercolor, and other materials.  Lessons will also introduce students to Art History.  We will view and discuss art created by famous artists, including Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Wassily Kandinsky.

Artist Angie Pickman is excited to share her love of the paper arts with her students!  In this class students will learn how to design and create paper shadow puppets.  The students will also "act" out a story on a shadow stage.



Beginning Drawing

Anyone can learn to draw!  Students will learn how to break objects down into basic shapes and add shading and shadow.  Have fun while seeing your drawing skills improve!

Cartooning

Instructor: Stephen Dicks

Ages: 10-15

Dates: (8) Mondays, June 7 - August 2  *no class July 5

Time: 7:00 - 8:00 pm

Cost: $90 members/$100 non-members


This class is intended to help young artists discover the art of character design and development.  We will explore shape, size, style, and line weight, as well as how to give characters personality.  The overall goal of the class is to have fun while learning how to create compelling cartoon characters that can be used in animation, comics, and illustrations.  Students should bring a sketchpad to class - 8.5in x 11in or 11in x 12in.




Mask Making Workshop

Instructor: Holly York

Ages: 11-13

Dates: (2) Tuesday and Wednesday, June 29 and June 30

Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm

Cost: $30 members/$40 non-members


Students will learn about masks from a variety of cultures.  They will then make their own masks by applying plaster and gauze to their faces.  The second day of class, students will paint and decorate their mask in a style from a culture of their choice.




Abstract Painting (session 1)

Instructor: Elizabeth Hill

Ages: 13-17

Dates: (3) Wednesdays, June 9 - June 23

Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm

Cost: $60 members/$70 non-members


Students will learn about the varied styles and methods associated with Abstract Expressionism.  Each lesson will cover a different Abstract Expressionist, including Mark Rothko and Franz Kline.  Most of the class supplies are included, but students will need to bring paint brushes (synthetic bristles, various sizes from ½“ - 2” in width).  Students may enroll in both sessions of Abstract Painting.

Dates: (3) Wednesdays, July 7 - July 21

Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm

Introduction to Calligraphy

Instructor: Ann Warren

Ages: 14+

Dates: (8) Mondays, April 5 - May 24

Time: 4:00 - 5:00 pm

This class will cover the basic mechanics and techniques of the calligraphy pen and ink.  We will cover several simple scripts including medieval, Victorian, and some Chinese and Japanese characters.  The class also includes a small introduction to illumination and embellishments to go along with the scripts.  Students are encouraged to wear an apron to protect their clothes.

Beginning Lithography

Instructor: Everett Ward

Ages: 16+

Dates: (6) Wednesdays, call to schedule lessons

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Cost: $180 members/$190 non-members


This course will cover basic principles of Lithography on stone. To include: graining stone, drawing image on stone, etching image on stone, pulling trial prints, and creating an edition of prints.  Students need to bring a couple of cellulose sponges to keep the stone wet during washout and pulling of prints.  If interested in this class, please contact the Carnegie Arts Center to schedule lithography lessons, 651-0765.

Open Studio Time Available!


The Carnegie Arts Center offers open studio time for artists wishing to use the Carnegie's studios during hours of operation.

The charge for open studio time is $50 members/$55 non-members per month.
