You may also download the enrollment forms here and turn them into the office prior to the first day of the class. Q: What do I get as a member of the Carnegie Arts Center? A: Members of the Carnegie Arts Center receive discounts on classes and private music lessons, as well as some ticketed events (concerts, etc.). Members also receive mailings, including postcard announcements of gallery exhibitions and class flyers. Q: What happens if it snows? Does the Carnegie ever cancel classes? A: If the Leavenworth USD #453 cancels school in the morning due to inclement weather, the Carnegie Arts Center will be closed as well, and classes/lessons will be rescheduled if possible. If the Leavenworth USD #453 closes in the afternoon due to inclement weather, please contact the Carnegie Arts Center - 913.651.0765. Reports of school closings will be broadcast on local TV and radio stations. Q: Why do you need to know if myself or my child has allergies or special needs? A: The staff of the Carnegie Arts Center needs to know if students have animal or pet hair allergies because the Carnegie cats Toulouse and Lautrec have a habit of sleeping on top of every chair, table, and desk in the building. Toulouse also likes to join students in their classes. If a student is allergic to cats, the staff can make sure that Toulouse stays out of the classroom, even if it means going to kitty time-out. The staff and faculty of the Carnegie Arts Center would like to know if you or your child has special needs so that we can be better prepared to meet those needs. Q: If I go on vacation, do I still have to pay for private music lessons? A: Yes. You have agreed to a particular time slot for your lesson, and as long as your time slot is reserved the Carnegie Arts Center will pay the instructor, regardless of whether you are present, absent, or tardy. If you plan on missing several consecutive weeks of private music lessons and do not wish to pay for the lessons you miss, you can be dropped from the private music lesson schedule. However, your time slot WILL NOT be held for you, and there may not be a slot available for you upon your return. Q: If I miss a class, can I get a make-up class? A: No. Attendance is the student's responsibility. If the student misses a class due to illness, vacation, tardiness, forgetfullness, etc., the class can not be made-up. Classes cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather or the absence of the teacher will be rescheduled. (Please note that in some instances, rescheduling the class may not be possible.) Q: If I miss class(es), can I get a partial refund? A: No. It is the student's responsibility to come to class. That slot is reserved for that student for the entire year or until the student decides to discontinue lessons. Yearly tuition for private music lessons has been divided into 12 monthly payments. You are not paying by the lesson, therefore the entire monthly payment is required. Private Music Lesson Tuition:
Q: What do I do if I or my child no longer wants to take private music lessons at the Carnegie Arts Center? A: Please give the staff of the Carnegie Arts Center at least 30 days notice when you want to discontinue lessons. This gives the teacher and the staff enough time to find another student to fill the time slot. The staff of the Carnegie Arts Center realizes that students may not be able to provide a full 30 days notice, but please give the office as much notice as possible. Failure to give adequate notice may result in a fee. Q: What does the recital fee cover? A: The $15 recital fee goes covers the costs of printing the recital programs and purchasing the refreshments for the reception that follows the recital. Q: Why do you have two cats? A: The Carnegie Arts Center adopted Toulouse and Lautrec several years ago to help control the mice that were sneaking into the building. (The Carnegie is now mice-free.) To learn more about the cats, click here. Q: Why don't you offer more adult art classes? A: The Carnegie Arts Center strives to offer the community a variety of classes and artistic opportunities. However, there is not as much interest in adult art classes as there is in children's art classes. If you are interested in taking a class we do not currently offer, please contact the Carnegie Arts Center to be put on a wait list. Once we have enough students to fill a class we will add it to our schedule. Q: Why can't I or my children practice on the Steinway grand piano? A: The Carnegie Arts Center's 1906 Steinway grand piano is on permanent loan from Cushing Memorial Hospital and the family of Nina Barker Lang, and is reserved for professional performances and student recitals. To learn more about the Steinway, click here. Q: Is the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth affiliated with any of the Carnegie Arts Centers or Carnegie Art Centers across the United States? A: Not really. While the Carnegie Arts/Art Centers share the same (or similar) name and most are located in Carnegie Library buildings, each arts center is its own entity. Several Carnegie Arts Centers are listed on the "Our Links" page if you are interested in learning more about them. Q: Has this building always been the Carnegie Arts Center? A: No. This building was constructed in the early 1900s and was originally a library. The building became the Carnegie Arts Center in 1987. To learn more about the building, click here. Q: Is this still a library? A: No. The library moved out of the original Carnegie building in 1985. The Leavenworth Public Library is now located on the corner of 5th Street and Spruce, only a few blocks away from the Carnegie Arts Center. Q: Can I tour the Carnegie building? Who would I talk to about that? A: Yes! Tours of the Carnegie Arts Center are available for individuals and school groups wanting to learn more about the Carnegie Arts Center and what the Carnegie offers the Leavenworth community. If you would like to schedule a tour of the building you can contact the Community Development Coordinator and set up a time. Walk-ins are usually available, but groups are asked to schedule their tours in advance.
