Toulouse and Lautrec were adopted by the Carnegie Arts Center four years ago to help combat
the building's little army of mice - a common problem in 100 year old buildings. After quickly showing
the rodents who really ruled the roost, Toulouse and Lautrec settled into a life of ease, snacking on
the treats hidden in the director's desk, napping in the choicest of the office chairs,
and being lavished with affection from students, staff, and visitors alike.
Toulouse: Ambassador and resident eye-candy of the Carnegie Arts Center, Toulouse relishes his role working with the public. While he doesn't like being held, he loves being petted and scratched on his neck and back. Toulouse is also an avid outdoorsman. Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet can keep him from his daily walks around the neighborhood. He especially likes visiting with the secretaries at the nearby churches. (Photos of his escapades can be found on his Facebook page.) Toulouse is a big art fan. In the photo at the right he ponders an installation by three-year-old artist Grace entitled "Tou-wouse Eating His Dinner." Read Toulouse's April 2010 interview with the Leavenworth Times! |

| Lautrec: The hairier and less social of the two cats, Lautrec spends most of his free time hiding downstairs in the art room. On quiet days you might be lucky enough to catch him sleeping in the director's in-box. He is often seen dashing out of the office and down the stairs to his lair, a.k.a. art closet. Many people have asked if Lautrec was the inspiration behind Phoebe's "Smelly Cat," and while that has never been proven it's a definite possibility. |
That Darn Cat! Toulouse the Carnegie cool cat is up to no good! First, he joined Facebook, then he opened his own account on the photo sharing site Flickr, and then he discovered Twitter. Now, he wants to blog. What will he think of next? Friend him on Facebook - he loves the attention - and he will invite you to our events and keep you up-to-date with everything that's going on at the Carnegie Arts Center. Also, be sure to catch Toulouse's Blog, Cat-o-Nine Tales, for a cat's-eye view of everything that goes on at the Carnegie Arts Center! |
Toulouse admires the double portrait of himself and his pal Lautrec. "It's an uncanny likeness," says Toulouse. "Truly breath-taking." |
