Carnegie Arts Center

No individual may participate in classes at the Carnegie Arts Center unless tuition has been paid in full

(or a payment plan has been agreed upon) prior to the start of session. 



Please Note:

Pieces made in the pottery classes must be allowed to completely dry before being fired in the kiln.

Students may not be bringing projects home every week.  Some pieces may not be ready to fire until after the class has ended.  Students will be contacted when their pieces are ready to be picked up.



Pottery Basics 

Instructor: Kay Hunter

Ages: 6-8

Dates: (6) Thursdays, March 4 – April 8

Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm

Cost: $60 members/$70 non-members


This is a beginning clay class.  Students will learn how to make four different kind of pottery: pinch pots, coil pots, slab pots, and sculpture pieces.


The Potter’s Hands  

Instructor: Kay Hunter

Ages: 9-12

Dates: (6) Thursdays, March 4 - April 8

Time: 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Cost: $60 members/$70 non-members


This is a beginning hand built clay class.  Students will learn how to make four different kinds of hand-built pottery:  pinch pots, coil pots, slab pots, and sculpture pieces.


The Potter’s Studio

Instructor: Patty Hammond

Ages: 12-17

Dates: (6) Saturdays, March 27 - May 1

Time: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Cost: $150 members/$170 non-members (payment plans available)


This course is an intense workshop mentored by a member of the Carnegie Potter's Guild.  Students will learn about various types of clay, tools, firings, wheel throwing techniques, and studio clean up.  The class is designed to be a continuation of Session 1, but participation in Session 1 is not a requirement.  A tool kit will be available for purchase through the Arts Center.  Enroll in both sessions and receive a discount.


Beginning and Intermediate Wheel Throwing 

Instructor: Jeanette Oliver

Ages: 14+

Dates: (8) Mondays, February 15 - April 5

Time: 4:00 - 6:00 pm

Cost: $190 members/$200 non-members (payment plans available)


Students will learn or improve their pottery skills using the potter's wheel as a tool for creating functional and decorative pieces.  The class includes up to four hours a week of extra studio time. 


The Potter’s Wheel  *

Instructor: Deb Leavitt

Ages: 17+

Dates: (8) Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 2 - March 25

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Cost: $120 members/$130 non-members (per session)


Students will improve their pottery skills using the potter's wheel as a tool for creating functional and decorative pieces.  The cost includes all clay, glazes and kiln firings as well as up to 4 hours per week of extra studio time.  Students are welcome to enroll in more than one session.

Open Studio Time Available!


The Carnegie Arts Center offers open studio time for artists wishing to use

the Carnegie's studios during hours of operation.

The charge for open studio time is $50 members/$55 non-members per month.
